Visit Shrewsbury

The Music Hall, Market St, Shrewsbury SY1 1LH, UK – 01743 258888

A really good experience. Good variety of shops. Public parking at £4 a day.

The first time I visited Shrewsbury I was in awe of the wonderful black and white buildings. It was like stepping back in time. Shrewsbury is a beautiful place to visit, shop and stay. Check out what events are happening at the time of visiting as they have lots going on throughout the year, such as the Shrewsbury Flower Show, Food Festival and Shrewsbury Cartoon Festival

Original Shrewsbury

The Music Hall, The Square, Shrewsbury SY1 1LH, UK – 01743 258888

Nice historic town. I visited this place during a schools vacation.

Jailhouse Tours

The Dana Prison, Shrewsbury SY1 2HR, UK – 01743 343100

Really enjoyed this experience! Thumbs ☝ Friendly and informative staff and the ex senior prison guard was a joy! To speak for two hours and to be engaging and entertaining is an art form. Only downside...I wouldn't recommend for children as they're so used to interaction, this guided tour is more educational on an adult level. Overall well worth the money and there are other tours/sleep over nights/hen/stag dos. Check out the website. :)

Was a lot of information in here, made it really interesting to wander around finding out about the prison and its residents. You will need a few hours to get around it all. The day we went there weren't any guided tours, we found though it was still good. There isn't much in terms of sign posting or recommended routes. Because it is quite a maze due to all the modifications and make shift rooms throughout time. We didn't see anything related to the old underground section of the prison other than the one entranceway. TL;DR worth a visit, very interesting, lack of signage and information on some topics

Boat Trips & Excursions - if available

Sabrina Boat

Victoria Quay, Victoria Ave, Welsh Bridge, Shrewsbury SY1 1HH, UK – 01743 369741

Lovely slow boat trip along the Severn. Tea coffee and alcohol flows freely. Bring your own scones, cream and jam and it's perfect. The right amount of tourist info, not too intrusive. Constant photo opportunities and not too long of a trip. Great way to fill the day with kids followed by the actual visit to the nearby play park.

Very reasonable prices for the tour and on board drinks (great selection by the way, had a nice whiskey with good service) which made the experience even better. Some nice historical information which gave pointers of where to see the place of Charles Darwin's baptism and where he was schooled (very useful as visited Shrewsbury on a whim). Would recommend 😊

Local Parks & Gardens

The Quarry

Shrewsbury SY1 1JA, UK – 01743 281010

Beautiful water gardens with an array of paths through it, nice shady areas on a hot summers day! It is surrounded by extensive open parkland running down to the river Severn and there is a high quality playground nearby and a miniature splash park for toddlers all containing modern play equipment.

Always a great place to relax. Whether to stroll along the river side or take the kids on the park. The toilets aren't too bad just a shame there's not more. Great for a picnic etc

Dingle Gardens

Shrewsbury SY1 1JL, UK

This place is incredible. I can't even sort a square meter of garden out so how these wizards make it look like this and keep it is incredible knowledge and skill. Hope it keeps it's incredibly high standard. Wish I would help in some way but likely would only be a hindrance.

Beautiful little oasis in the heart of The Quarry. Wonderful place just to sit.

The Quarry Swimming & Fitness Car Park

The Quarry Swimming & Fitness Car Park, Shrewsbury SY1 1RV, UK

A small 15 space car park just below the Quarry Swimming Pool. The car park is often full but some paid street parking is also available on the approach to the swimming pool on Victoria avenue. The car parking fee is due between 08:00 and 18:00 - Mon to Sat up to 2 hours is £2.40 and up-to-date 4 hours is £4.80. Sunday is half that fee.

It does need refurbishment but it still has 4 pools and I can walk to it from home or from town. It's also next to a playground and a beautiful Park and river.

Great website!. Click below to find gardens open during the year around Shrewsbury or Shropshire. There are photos and lots of detail about the garden.
