Cinemas around Shrewsbury

Cineworld Cinemas

Old Potts Way, Shrewsbury SY3 7ET, UK – 0330 333 4444

Had a great visit to see Mama Mia's second film. Really enjoyed the whole experience. Clean and tidy, easy to get tickets comfortable seats. Friendly staff. Well done.

The Cineworld has lots of screens so good range of choice. It is located very close to a nandos, buffet restaurant and harvester so a good stop for lunch then film. There is also an overflow car park so plenty of parking spots.

Old Market Hall

The Square, Shrewsbury SY1 1LH, UK – 01743 281281

Brilliant little cinema with really comfy seating. The environment is clean and has some truly beautiful features. They show interesting films that have a lower circulation so offers variety to the dominant cinema chains. The cafe/ bar is also excellent and has lots to choose from in terms of food, snacks and drinks.

Really lovely little cinema in Shrewsbury town centre. Beautiful old building with exposed beams, fantastic atmosphere. Friendly staff, good coffee (I'm decaf only, my friend is soya only, but the server was great and made our drinks really well - which doesn't always happen unfortunately), and a nice bar area with cool models of the town hall, and what from a distance looked like a clock mechanism. As a cinema it's a lovely space (more exposed beams!) with good audio-visual quality, and comfortable seats. Only slight downside is that because it's not a purpose-built cinema you can very occasionally hear loud noises outside (an ambulance siren went past at one point during the film we watched), but that's the case at a lot of picturehouse style cinemas, and it didn't particularly bother me. Only other small issue is there are not many toilets upstairs (one each for men, women, and disabled), so there was a bit of a wait at the end of the film. There's not much that can be done about that though in a building of limited space, but it's useful to know if you don't want to miss the start of the film. All in all it was a really lovely experience, and I'm keeping my eyes out for the next film I want to see there.

Theatres for Shrewsbury

Theatre Severn

Frankwell Quay, Shrewsbury SY3 8FT, UK – 01743 281281

This is a great theatre both in terms of the shows put on, and the facility itself. The cafe has really nice food and although it is more expensive as you might expect, it is still reasonable making it a good place to wait for the show to start, there's also a bar but I haven't used this yet. The seats were comfortable (I was in the stalls) and because it's a local theatre ticket prices have always been very reasonable. parking is in a council car park next door, which isn't too pricey but needs cash unless you fancy using a far too complicated text based payment system.

Shropshire Music Services Brass Extravaganza. Well organised, comfortable and impressive building. One or two stewards were a bit officious but otherwise excellent all round.

Ashton Theatre

Shrewsbury School The Schools, Kingsland, Shrewsbury SY3 7BA, UK – 01743 280598

Lovely theatre, and excellent production of Richard lll.

Lovely little theatre on the Shrewsbury School campus. Performed here and would love to again!!

Wightman Theatre

14A The Square, Shrewsbury SY1 1LN, UK – 0800 292 2116

We were the only two in the audience! So was a bit special. Nice little theatre and would like to see another show.

I've had the pleasure of seeing fantastic poets Luke Wright and John Cooper Clarke here, as well as the musical talent of Louis Gordon. Most recently, Playhouse Creatures. Great venue for most excellent nights out in Shrewsbury.
